A trench was machine excavated in three spits. The results from this were compared to the results of an evaluation of the site MAP had carried out in 1995. The earliest deposit uncovered was traces of mortar. Similar traces had been located by the 1995 evaluation, and appear to represent late medieval floor surfaces. The next phase of occupation of the site was represented by two parallel walls, running perpendicular to the Grape Lane frontage. These may have formed an internal corridor, or flanked an alleyway between two properties. Less substantial wall traces at the southern end of the trench seem to belong to the same phase, and appear to represent an internal room division. This phase represents a remodelling of a pre-existing building by subdividing it internally in the late medieval period. This structure appears to have been demolished in the 16/17th century. A brick-walled building was built on the same general alignment as this earlier structure. The form of its bricks give it a 16th century or later date. Two walls were located from this building. It is unclear when this building was demolished.
