Description

YORK SE5951SW HOLGATE ROAD 1112-1/19/477 (South side) 24/06/83 Nos.63 AND 65 and attached walls and railings GV II Two houses. c1830. Brick with hipped slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. The houses form a mirrored pair, with doorways at the outer sides. Each has a sashed canted bay window on the ground floor, No.63 with a plain cornice, and No.65 with a modillion cornice and with its sashes divided into large square panes. Each has a tripartite bowed glazing bar sash on the 1st floor, and 2 glazing bar sashes with painted rusticated lintels on the 2nd floor. The doorcases have engaged reeded columns. No.63 has a plain entablature, and No.65 has a bracketed cornice. Both have fanlights, and doors with 6 raised and fielded panels. Chimney between houses. Timber modillion gutter cornice, with lead hopper and downpipe between houses. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the front garden is enclosed by a low rendered brick wall with stone copings which support cast-iron railings with bulb-shaped finials. Each house has a gate with slim iron gateposts which have ball finials. The left-hand finial to No.63 is now missing. (RCHME: City of York: London: 1972-: 126). Listing NGR: SE5937251206
