Description

YORK SE6051NW SHAMBLES 1112-1/28/1117 (South West side) 14/06/54 Nos.31, 32 AND 33 GV II Row of three houses, now three shops. Early C15, altered in late C19, partly rebuilt and renovated c1960. Timber-framed, white-washed plaster at front, rear rebuilt in variegated brick in random bond; pantile roofs. EXTERIOR: 2-storey 3-bay front. Through-passage entrance with chamfered 4-centred lintel between Nos 31 and 32. No.31 has small-pane shop window over sunk panel riser, to left of part-glazed 4-panel door with overlight, beneath boxed first floor jetty on carved brackets. First floor window is horizontal sliding sash with 12-pane and 9-pane lights. No.32 has similar shopfront with 6-light half-canted window with transom to left of recessed glazed door. First floor windows are tripled unequal 9-pane sashes in raised architraves. Over shopfronts to Nos 31 and 32 is plain fascia board with hanging brackets. No.33 has 6-panel door to right of 3-light small-pane shop window with transoms beneath boxed overhang on carved brackets. First floor window of grouped 1-pane sashes within raised architrave. Above shopfront, hanging bar on brackets survives. Moulded bracketed eaves cornice. Rear: some timber-framing visible at rear of No.31. INTERIORS: not inspected.
