Description

YORK SE6051NE GEORGE STREET 1112-1/17/361 (North West side) Brewery warehouse approximately 5 metres north-west of No.18 (not included) GV II Maltings, now warehouse. c1875. For Hotham and Co, Brewers. Cream brown brick in English garden-wall bond with orange brick bands, dressings and cogged and moulded brick eaves frieze and cornice; weatherboard lucam; slate roof with skylights. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys on chamfered basement plinth; 9 bays. Arcade of blind segmental-arched recesses between full-height pilasters. Boarded double doors to right of centre and inserted glazed doors, approached by ramp, to left of centre. Bay further left contains full-height gabled lucam. Windows of various types include 2x10-pane casements, 2x2-pane Yorkshire sashes and one 6-pane hung sash. All openings have segmental brick arches. Left return: 3 stepped segmental arched recesses with 2x10-pane casement windows with painted sills and segmental arches. Cogged and moulded brick frieze and cornice to gable end.
