Description

YORK SE6050NE GRANGE GARTH 1112-1/25/428 No.37 19/08/71 and Fulford Grange and The Croft (Formerly Listed as: GRANGE GARTH No.37 The Grange and The Croft) II Formerly known as: The Grange GRANGE CROFT. House, now divided into 3 houses. c1830-40 with late C18 remains. Gault brick, with stone and painted stone or stucco dressings. Hipped slate roof. EXTERIOR: east facade symmetrical, of 2 storeys and 5 bays, with a stone storey band. The windows are glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick flat arches. The doorway is flanked by pairs of pilasters supporting an entablature. In the centre a porch breaks forwards and is supported on Ionic columns. Above the blocking course there is wrought-iron scrollwork. The divided door is glazed above 2 solid panels and has an overlight with a central division. Axial chimneys to left and right of ridge. The left-hand return wall, facing south, has a semicircular 2-storey bow to the right, with a stone storey band and with a gutter cornice. It has 2 curved glazing bar sash windows on each floor. The ground-floor windows have ogee blind boxes, and the 1st floor windows have iron balconies. To the left are 3 bays of mottled brick, of 3 storeys and remaining from a late C18 house. The windows are C20, except for the 1st floor window of the right-hand bay, which is a glazing bar sash. Below it there is a doorcase with fluted Doric pilasters, a fluted frieze, and a fanlight. The door has 6 recessed panels. Chimneys on ridge and at left. INTERIOR: has open string stone staircase with curved end and cast-iron balusters. Original plasterwork including coving survives, and original doors and doorcases.
