Title 39 Holgate Road
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1998

Abstract/Summary

All of the trial holes revealed a considerable build up of what appears to be garden or agricultural soils that was, in some places at least, in the region of 1.30m or deeper. In instances where archaeology was revealed in the trial holes (and indeed in the trenches of the evaluation) this was below the level of these soils. The variation in depth of this material is quite marked and on the basis of all of the available evidence it appears to deepen to the north, downhill side, and possibly also to the west, where a less pronounced slope is also apparent. Trial Hole 2 identified medieval deposits as 12.79m AOD.
