Author/Originator | York Archaelogical Trust |
Date/Year | 2010 |
Abstract/Summary
The earliest deposit on site proved to be natural in origin and it was only encountered beneath Lawrence Street, or the A1079 roadway to Hull. It was encountered at c. 1.20m BGL (metres Below Ground Level). On the north side of the roadway, the natural was sealed by a brick and/or tile patched cobble surface, observed at 0.90m BGL. This was proposed to be east-south-east – west-north-west aligned due to a slight camber and the fills of a presumed roadside drainage ditch. A track or path laid down in the later 19th century was recorded on the north side of the footpath and was likely an earlier version of Bull Lane.
