York Historic Environment Record

The watching brief comprised the monitoring of a single hand excavated foundation trench to the rear of 202 Mount Vale in the City of York. The trench was dug by hand, following the removal of existing stone slabs, to a depth of 0.90m below the existing ground surface. No archaeological deposits were observed during this process. A thick, apparently agricultural and / or horticultural soil deposit was recorded, which extended below the maximum depth of excavation.
