watching brief on the demolition and replacement of bridge. No significant archaeological features, deposits or structures pre-dating the bridge were observed during the watching brief. This may be a result of a relative paucity of activity having taken place along the banks of Osbaldwick Beck, but it is also plausible that more noteworthy earlier archaeology may be present beneath the thick deposit of alluvium revealed in section on both sides of the Beck.
