Abstract/Summary

An archaeological investigation was carried out by On-Site Archaeology at land northeast of Middlewood Close in the village of Rufforth, west of York. This was carried out retrospectively following the construction of an agricultural building. The work consisted of the machine excavation of a single 5m x 2m evaluation trench to the southeast of the new building. This revealed only natural deposits. The retrospective investigation is considered to provide an appropriate level of archaeological recording in respect of the construction of the pig isolation unit. In view of the results of this investigation it is unlikely that any significant archaeological remains were disturbed during the construction.
