Abstract/Summary

Between 25th June and 22nd July 2014 York Archaeological Trust undertook a watching brief at Hallfield Road, York. The objective was to record any deposits, features or buried structures exposed during enabling works associated with the construction of new blocks of student accommodation. In Area A the northern and southern parts contained only modern dumps / levelling deposits, up to c.1m deep, overlying natural clay although a few short stretches of brick wall were seen close to Hallfield Road. It was, however, noted that in the central part of Area A the dump / levelling deposits were much thicker and appeared to be filling a large depression or hole. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the works in this area.
