Title York City Walls Monk Bar Conservation Engineer’s Investigation of Defects
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2014

Abstract/Summary

An initial inspection was carried out by Robert Thorniley-Walker on 11th December 2013. The inspection involved only a “walk around” survey, which covered only elements that could be readily seen. A second inspection was carried out on 16th January 2013 by an engineering assistant. The inspection involved further measurements and use of a “snake vision” inspection camera to investigate the voids on the internal (city side) of the steps. No trial pits, investigations into likely ground conditions or surveys of the building have been carried out. It should be appreciated that no structural assessment of members involving calculations of strengths, loadings and capacities have been carried out
