Monument record MYO2238 - Tyburn

Summary

On 7th March 1379, the York Tyburn was erected on the Knavesmire. It continued in use until 1801. Private Edward Hewison was the first person to be hanged at the York Tyburn on March 31st 1379. Edward Hughes was the last person to be hanged at the York Tyburn on August 29th 1801.

Gallows near St.James's Hill, later known as the Mount, are recorded in 1150-4. They were removed in 1812. (2-3)
