House. c1730 incorporating earlier structure at rear; front range altered in early C19. Front range stuccoed on painted rendered plinth; rear range timber-framed encased in pink-cream and orange-brown brick in English garden-wall bond, rendered in places: slate and pantile roofs and brick stacks.

EXTERIOR: 2-storey 3-bay front. Central doorcase has grooved jambs and frieze, moulded cornice on grooved consoles and 6-panel door beneath divided overlight. Flanking windows are full height canted bays with 12:16:12-pane sashes on both floors: window over door is 12-pane sash with louvred shutters. Moulded frieze and dentilled cornice runs full width of front, rising to pedimented gables over bay windows. Raised first floor band. Rear: 3-storey gabled wing with cambered tie beam exposed below second floor. Ground floor obscured by later outbuilding and wall: windows on first and second floors are 16-pane sashes. Left return of wing has irregular fenestration including 12-pane sash on first floor and raking dormer with 12-pane sash in attic. Right return has 12-pane sashes, two in raking dormers.

INTERIOR: not inspected.. RCHM record that several original fittings survive, including main staircase, doors of 2 fielded panels and two fireplaces, one of stone: one on first floor has carved oakleaf decoration. Other fireplaces are decorated with composition mouldings of garlands, candlesticks and drops.

No. 7, of brick, with slated and pantiled roofs, was formerly part of the prebendal house of Strensall. It consists of a front range facing N.W., of two storeys, attics and cellars, built in the second quarter of the 18th century, and a range at the rear, partly of the same date, but incorporating fragments of a two-storey timber-framed building and which was heightened to three storeys in the late 18th or early 19th century. The front elevation is rendered, has two two-storey canted and pedimented bay windows, and a central door-case, all of early 19th-century date. The exterior is otherwise partly rendered but largely of brick of several periods, resulting from the gradual manner in which the former framed building was rebuilt; an original tie-beam, wall-plates and parts of posts survive at the S.E. end. Part of the S.W. wall of the second floor is of poor quality framing of late date. All the windows have hung sashes, some of them modern. Several original 18th-century fittings remain, including the main staircase, doors of two fielded panels and two fireplaces, one of stone; the other, on the first floor, has unusual carved oak-leaf decoration. Among later Georgian fireplaces, two have composition ornament.
