Full Description

House. c1812. Probably built for John Mason. Brick with interlocking red tile roof. EXTERIOR: symmetrical, of 2 storeys and 3 bays. On the ground floor there are brick bows with curved glazing bar sash windows and flat lead roofs. The 1st floor windows are sashed with painted rusticated lintels. The doorcase has fluted pilasters, frieze blocks with a diagonal pattern, and a rectangular overlight with margin panes and crossed glazing bars. The door has 6 raised and fielded panels. The timber gutter is supported by paired rectangular brackets. Gable chimneys. INTERIOR: not inspected. No. 55, was probably built by John Mason between 1809 and 1815 (YCA, E96, ff. 126–126v; YML, Vicars Choral Lease Book No. 4, 141). It has a symmetrical front elevation of three bays; the central doorway has recessed pilasters and a fanlight with geometrical glazing pattern.
