Description

A second phase of Archaeological Evaluation was undertaken at the former Terry's of York Chocolate Factory from 14th February to the 2nd March 2007. The aim of the survey was to further evaluate the extent of archaeological features found in Trenches 10 and 12 of the 2005 Evaluation. This evaluation was undertaken to accompany a planning application for mixed use redevelopment. One archaeological feature was uncovered in Trench 14, a north-south aligned nineteenth century land boundary containing eighteenth/nineteenth artefacts. No other archaeological features were uncovered. Trenches 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 were heavily disturbed by services for the Factory. No features were observed in Trenches 19, 20, 21 and 22. NMR Information: Evaluation in advance of proposed development recorded a single boundary feature containing 18th/19th century artefacts.
