geophysical and trench An archaeological investigation, using geophysical surveying and trial trenching, was undertaken by On-Site Archaeology on the site of the proposed development at Naburn Sewage Treatment Works. The majority of features encountered were remnant furrows (relicts of the medieval ploughing system). Two ditches of either late Iron Age or early Roman date were found towards the eastern boundary of the site, and a number of modern deposits, probably of dumped material, were also revealed. The modern dumped material extended to a depth of 1.70 metres below the present ground level and examination of the layers which it sealed was beyond the remit of this investigation. This report was prepared by Guy Hopkinson of On-Site Archaeology.Ten samples of sediment from deposits of ?Romano-British to post medieval date excavated at Naburn Sewage Treatment Works, York were submitted for an evaluation of their potential for bioarchaeological analysis. The traces of ancient plant and invertebrate remains recovered from the samples were of very limited interpretative value.
