Description

The evaluation demonstrated a clearence of the site in the 20th century in the area of the car park which revealed the natural clay between 0.40-1.00m BGL overlain by compacted hardcore and tarmac. A late post medieval wall was recorded in the north-western corner of the site in trench 3. boreholes within the carpet right store were partially obstructed by a concrete feature at around 0.5m BGL. Two were cored in the south-western part of the site inside the building identified alluvial deposits likely derived from the River Foss.
