Description

An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by On-Site Archaeology Ltd at Burnholme Social Club, Burnholme Drive, York, in January 2013 at the request of Brierley Groom Chartered Architects. The evaluation consisted of four trial trenches covering a sample of the proposed development area in order to assess the potential and significance of the archaeology and the impact a development would have upon it. Excavation confirmed the presence of archaeological features within two of the evaluation trenches, consisting of furrows relating to medieval agricultural practices from which a small assemblage of medieval pottery was recovered. No other, more significant, archaeological features were recorded.
