Description

SE 5951 SE YORK MICKLEGATE (North side) 1112-1/20/688 No 150 GV II Shop and offices. Mid C19, modernised in C20. Ground floor sandstone ashlar with panels of vermiculated rustication: upper floor of orange-red brick in Flemish band, with pilasters and window surrounds of cream brick; dressings of ashlar and moulded cream brick. Brick stacks, one with cornice, to slate roof. EXTERIOR: corner site; 2 storeys, 2 unequal bays to Micklegate, 4 unequal bays to Bar Lane, with canted half bay on corner. Shopfronts return on both fronts, having pilaster piers on plain plinths, with moulded imposts and moulded dentilled cornice. C20 shop door in corner bay; in left end bay of Bar Lane front, sunk-panelled double doors beneath tall overlight lead to staircase. Other openings contain C20 shop windows or glazed folding doors. On first floor, bays are articulated by pilasters on sunk-panelled plinths, supporting continuous entablature with enriched moulded cornice surmounted by low parapet with moulded coping. Each bay contains round-headed sash window recessed in round arched surround with moulded impost and hood of attached mouldings. Moulded plinth string forms sill band. On first floor of Micklegate front, left bay has wide 2-light window with semi-circular arched head; right bay has narrow standard window. INTERIOR: not inspected.
