Description

YORK SE5951SW ST PAUL'S SQUARE 1112-1/19/953 (East side) 24/06/83 Nos.1, 2 AND 3 and attached walls and railings (Formerly Listed as: ST PAUL'S SQUARE Nos.1-11 (Consecutive)) GV II Three houses. c1860. Brick with some painted stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys. Each house one bay. The windows have sashes divided into horizontal-rectangular panes. Nos 2 and 3 each have a doorway to the right with a doorcase which has pilasters with sunken panels, a door with 4 panels, and an overlight. No.1 has one bay facing St Paul's Square, and a right-hand return gable wall of 3 storeys and 3 bays facing Watson Terrace. This return wall has recesses painted to imitate windows with glazing bars, except at the right on the ground floor where there is a sashed window divided into rectangular panes, and in the centre at 1st floor level where there is a glazing bar sash window. In the centre there is a doorcase with panelled pilasters, an overlight, and a 4-panel door. INTERIORS: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the front walls of the gardens are of brick with stone and artificial stone copings. Each garden has a gate of cast-iron with cast-iron gateposts. The walls to No.3 carry railings with cast finials. At the north end the front wall returns to divide the gardens of Nos 3 and 4. The south return wall shows evidence of rebuilding, and the garden gate to No.1 is set between the wall and the Watson Terrace facade. Listing NGR: SE5910751319
