House. 1865. Brick with some stone dressings. Slate roof. EXTERIOR: built with a gabled facade and with the cellar and ground floors projecting forwards under a hipped slate roof. 3 storeys with attic and basement. 2 bays. The windows are sashed without glazing bars and have 2-centred arches of rubbed brick springing from stone blocks with diamond rustication, with keystones which are similarly rusticated. The attic is lit by a single window within the gable. On the ground floor there are 3 windows, the outer ones narrower. The basement has 3 similar windows, but with plain segmental brick arches. The arch of the doorway, to the right, matches those of the windows and is carried on a corbel at the right-hand side. The door is recessed and has 4 raised and fielded panels with bolection mouldings. At the eaves of the ground-floor projection there is a course of bricks moulded with a zig-zag pattern. Below the gable coping there is a similar course, and a course of saw-tooth brickwork rises from corbels to left and right to follow the line of the gable. Chimneys to left and right. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: the area railings are set on low brick walls with stone copings and have spear-head finials. Nos 1-22 Bootham Terrace form an unusually complete row of speculatively built terraced houses, constructed between 1860 and 1870 to an interesting variety of different designs.
