YORK SE5952NE CLIFTON 1112-1/7/199 (North East side) 24/06/83 The Burton Stone Inn and attached front wall GV II Public house. 1896 on site of earlier inn. Architect WH Brierley. Brick, with painted render on 1st floor and with stone dressings. Plain tile roof. EXTERIOR: facade symmetrical, with two 6-sided 2-storey bay windows with flat roofs. The windows are leaded casements, with each of the 6 sides of the bays divided into 2 tall lights. In the centre of the facade, between the bay windows, there is a 2-light casement window on the 1st floor above a doorway with a moulded limestone surround with Tudor arch. Chimneys to left and right. The right-hand return wall includes a 2-storey 4-sided bay window under a gable. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: attached to the front a curved low stone wall with stone coping and square piers with ball finials. Corner railings enclose The Burton Stone (qv) with iron gates beyond.
